Summary:
The MC returns to the tea room
and is slightly shocked to see the Mad Hatter instead of Rion. He asks her what’s
wrong because “she’s as wide-eyed as a pufferfish”. She says that it’s been a
while since she’s seen the Mad Hatter, and she’s happy to see him. He is
sincerely happy that she says this. He proceeds to ask her if her meeting went
ok, and then starts his typical rambling speech. He asks her if she had fun,
and then basically states that fun is the only thing that matters, and it is
beautiful. He says that loneliness, anger, and sadness are not beautiful, and
that within Wonderland, you are safe. The MC’s thoughts start to wander back to
the man in the white hoodie. She then asks the Mad Hatter if he has a twin. He
is quiet for a moment with a hardened look, but then smiles again telling her
no. She tells him about the man she saw, but he says that it must just be
coincidental. The MC is still suspicious as he goes back to drinking his tea. He
mumbles something under his breath – the “Queen of Hearts” has possibly sent a
messenger.
The scene then cuts to a few
days later. Rion requests that the MC make tea as he is working on painting
some roses on the wall of the tea room. While she prepares the tea, he talks to
himself about the painting. In observing him, she thinks that even though Rion
and the Mad Hatter look like different people at first, they are definitely the
same person in their mannerisms. The only differences are the way they look.
She notes that he lives in a world only of aesthetics, and his favorite phrase
is “unattractive”. Lost in her thoughts, she forgets that the tea is still
brewing. Rion catches it before it becomes too bitter. She apologizes for being
careless. He serves her tea and discusses the roses that he just painted. She
comments on how lifelike they are.
After finishing his tea, he
stands up and tells the MC that it’s housecleaning day. She is confused as she
cleans the room every day for her job. But he tells her that it’s not that kind
of cleaning. He goes to get a cardboard box and writes “things I don’t need” on
it. She notes that his handwriting is very uneven and childish. He fills the box
with various items that the MC goes to take it out to the garbage. She notices
a book among the variety of odd items, but leaves it alone. When the elevator
reaches the destination, she finds Mr. Ichinomiya. He is in the venue that is
used for the Black Auctions. She tries to pass through without him seeing her,
but he of course does. He wants to know what all that “crap” is that she’s
carrying and if “He” (the Mad Hatter) told her to throw it out. Mr. Ichinomiya
notices the book and removes it from the pile. The MC chides him for looking
through others’ things. A photo falls from the pages, and he orders her to pick
it up. It shows a beautiful European house with tons of roses. She also notices
a coat of arms. Mr. Ichinomiya tells her that it’s the Hatter family coat of
arms and that Rion is a duke. He then basically warns her not to fall in love with
Rion. She doesn’t really know what he means. Despite her protests, Mr.
Ichinomiya leaves with the book. She finally goes outside to throw out the rest
of the items. Not knowing what to do with the photo from earlier, she puts it in her pocket.
My commentary:
When the Mad Hatter starts going
off on his tangent at the beginning of the episode, it is a little different from
the previous ones because he is revealing how he feels about the outside world
in more depth. He makes another mention to the “Queen of Hearts”; it sounds
like someone might be after him for some reason. A cute thought, but maybe the bad
handwriting is a hint to his non-Japanese upbringing (since he’s writing in
hiragana)? I am very intrigued by the book that Mr. Ichinomiya took. Frankly, I
would have been all too tempted to flip through it! Perhaps we will find out
what it says later? I think yes, or they would not have brought it up!
