I am aware this says "Special Story 2". This is the correct image; it's an error in the graphics. |
Summary:
Rion, who has been almost
entirely silent up until now, is cackling and speaking like the Mad Hatter. He
says that “Although the probability of a straight royal flush is only a mere
0.00015%, it’s not zero. Nevertheless… they cry charlatan…” Soryu is the first
to realize that Rion is actually the Mad Hatter. The other men are surprised,
but his wit seems to have won them over (except for maybe Kisaki who still
thinks he’s crazy). Mr. Ichinomiya is not surprised since he already knew his
true identity. He says that “these are the true colors of the Mad Hatter.” The
MC rushes over to Rion, and they head back to the basement.
They are silent as the elevator
begins to move. The MC thinks that this silence is different from the past
times though. She breaks the silence by apologizing, but he smiles wryly and
asks her why she’s apologizing. She is looking down when she notices a shadow.
She looks up to see Rion right in front of her. With each step he takes toward
her, she moves back until she is against the glass of the elevator. He says, “Because
I won (at poker), you’re mine tonight, Alice?” He puts both hands on the wall
around her to corner her, and says, “Shall we go to our suite… to my bed in the
tea room?” He leans in close, about to kiss her, but stops before their lips
touch when he sees that she has started crying. She admits internally that she
might have wanted to kiss him, but not as the result of a bet. He pulls his
face back and reminds her that he said that crying was not beautiful. She
apologizes and tries to wipe her tears away, but they won’t stop falling. He
finally releases her as the elevator arrives at its stop.
They walk out into the lobby to
find Al waiting. He only greets his brother by saying, “Hi, Alphonse.” Al is furious.
He grabs Rion by the collar and yells at him for greeting him so casually when
he’s been hunting for him for four years. He smirks at Al and asks him if he
came as a messenger of the “Queen [of Hearts]” and that she’s still the same. Al
knocks him to the floor. He tells Rion that he hasn’t changed and that he needs
to come back to reality, and “Don’t even think of running away from the old
hag.” The MC tries to break them up and checks on Rion. Guests in the lobby
begin gossiping about the scene. Rion stands up and tells Al that he will not
change. He doesn’t want to be “surrounded by ugly things, laughing at things
that aren’t even funny, wearing clothes that don’t fit the body” because “such
a life is hell.” He wants to live in a world where he can’t be hurt. The MC
reaches out her hand to take Rion back to the tea room, but he won’t go with
her. He tells her that it has been fun. She starts to protest, but he puts a
finger to her lips silencing her. He reminds her that “Alice is the last to
wake up… Wonderland was a bad dream.” She begins to tear up as he tells her
goodbye. Rion heads down to the basement by himself. The MC is left shocked,
unable to process anything around her as she cries. Al sighs but does not
follow Rion. He turns on his heel and leaves.

My commentary:
THIS CHAPTER RUINED ME!!!!!!!!!! It started off a little funny and then really steamy for a brief moment before turning absolutely tragic!!! I think I scream-cried for a few days because of this. “No, Rion, NO!!!” was all my husband got to hear for a while.
Songs to listen to while reading this chapter:
