Summary:
This episode starts with a
despondent Mad Hatter. Since this is so different than his typical cheeriness,
the MC immediately notices something is wrong. She notices that all of the
decorations from the previous day have gone missing. She questions the Mad
Hatter, but he refuses to answer. The VIPs arrive shortly after, and Mr. Ichinomiya
scolds the Mad Hatter for letting people in who he doesn’t know. They question
the MC about the March Hare and the Dormouse but she knows little about them.
The Mad Hatter proceeds to lock himself in his room. Before they leave, Mr.
Ichinomiya tells the MC to watch over the Mad Hatter – and also reminds her
that she was bought for 20 billion yen and would have to pay it back should she
flee.
The MC sits quietly, stroking
Cheshire and waiting to see if the Mad Hatter will come back out of his room.
She decides to make dinner after a while but burns the fish she was making because
Cheshire was being mischievous. She decides it’s salvageable, but the burnt
smell clearly lingers in the air. The smell seems to finally draw the Mad
Hatter out of his room. He looks on wordlessly, and she apologizes for using
the kitchen without permission. He finally speaks, asking her what they are
celebrating today as he notices the large spread on the table. Playing on his
speech from the previous chapter, she tells him that it is “nothing day”. He cracks
a small smile and approaches her slowly. He places his gloved hands on both
sides of her face, calling her “lovely Alice” and then asking if she will
continue to stay beside him. She responds simply, “Yes.”
My commentary:
The Mad Hatter is clearly moved
by something as simple as making dinner. He has seemed so distant due to his
strange personality; this is the first time we really see a more human side of
him. And the CG for this one was really adorable. (Note that the CG is only
available if you take the SWEET route. Taking the normal route will give you
the same story, however.)
